Alaskans Love Summer Propane Grilling

summer propane grilling

Alaska summers are just around the corner (Officially), although most Alaskans are already making headway with Anchorage city-wide clean up efforts. After long and frozen days are behind us, Alaskans eagerly embrace the summer propane grilling season. This summer Alaska has a brand new option for residential propane delivery to make more time  for summer, family and friends even larger!

In the midst of Alaska’s frigid, but clear, dark nights of winter, people come from all over the world to see the stunning exhibition of sweeping, colorful lights known as the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. This brilliant spectacle extends hundreds of miles into space, but hovers only 60 miles above earth, creating a light show unlike any other.

The summer months in Alaska are gifted with another fascinating occurrence that makes life in our 50th state unique. Starting at the spring equinox, the days become gradually longer, reaching a culmination on June 21st at the summer solstice, which marks the longest day of the year for sunlight in Alaska. Also known as the Midnight Sun, Alaskans celebrate the solstice with state-wide events as they experience their world in continual ’round the clock daylight. This means that folks in the great State of Alaska might be firing up their grills and enjoying an outdoor feast at midnight –  while the sun is still shining! Now that’s a one-of-a-kind backyard barbecue!

Summer Propane Grilling

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 1 1/4 -to-1 1/2-inch-thick boneless rib-eye or New York strip steaks (about 12 ounces each) or filets mignons (8 to 10 ounces each), trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons canola or extra-virgin olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

DIRECTIONS

About 20 minutes before grilling, remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let sit, covered, at room temperature.

Heat your grill to high. Brush the steaks on both sides with oil and season liberally with salt and pepper. Place the steaks on the grill and cook until golden brown and slightly charred, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn the steaks over and continue to grill 3 to 5 minutes for medium-rare (an internal temperature of 135 degrees F), 5 to 7 minutes for medium (140 degrees F) or 8 to 10 minutes for medium-well (150 degrees F).

Transfer the steaks to a cutting board or platter, tent loosely with foil and let rest 5 minutes before slicing.
